The difference in plain terms
A frontend developer builds everything the user sees and interacts with directly: the layout, the visual components, the forms, the navigation, the animations, and the responsive behaviour on different screen sizes. Frontend work runs in the user's browser.
A backend developer builds what happens on the server: databases, APIs, authentication, payment processing, email sending, and business logic. Backend work runs on the server, invisible to the user but responsible for everything that makes an application work.
A full-stack developer works across both. In practice, 'full-stack' usually means more front than back or vice versa. Most developers have stronger skills on one side. Ask any full-stack developer specifically which side they are stronger on.
